JODP Phase III – Bridge Lifting
The World Highest Suspended Mosque in the World.
The Jabal Omar Development Project’s connecting bridge, linking towers H01A & H02Z, has set a new world record by reaching its final destination. PEER International Consultants engineered the +161-meter-high bridge, which offers a spectacular view of the Holy Kaaba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. It has been recognized as the “highest suspended mosque in the world.”
The bridge is a 40-meter-span structure linking the two tallest connected towers, designed to tolerate an average of one meter of relative movement under earthquake loads. It has been engineered to withstand gravity, wind, and seismic activity, meeting the latest international and local codes and standards. In addition to its impressive engineering feats, the bridge is a beautiful addition to the Holy City.
The Jabal Omar Development Project (JODP) is a 40-tower complex, including luxury 4 and 5-star hotels, residential properties, commercial space, and restaurants. This project is part of the comprehensive expansion program underway in Makkah, providing comfortable and reliable infrastructure for millions of religious tourists who visit the holy city each year.
Makkah welcomes millions of visitors annually from all over the globe, making it one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the Muslim world. The Hajj, the world’s largest annual gathering of people, takes place over five days each year. The Hajj pilgrimage sees 3-5 million pilgrims, with another 10 million visiting the city to see the holy sites or participate in the Umrah pilgrimage. Therefore, providing comfortable and reliable infrastructure is critical to accommodate the massive influx of visitors.
