In a world breaking record, the connecting Bridge of towers H01A & H02Z of Jabal Omar Development Project has been lifted up to its final destination. Rising at +161 meters above ground, the bridge overlooks the Holy Kaaba in Makkah – Saudi Arabia and is recognized as the “highest suspended mosque in the world”.
Engineered by PEER International Consultants, including the two tallest connected towers, the 40 meters span bridge tolerates an average of one meter of towers relative movement under earthquake loads. Designed to withstand gravity, wind, and seismic in compliance with the latest international and local codes and standards, the bridge is a beautiful engineering addition to the Holy City.
The complete vision of Jabal Omar Development Project (JODP) represents a 40 tower complex of luxury 4 and 5-star hotels, as well as residential properties, commercial space, and restaurants. This project is part of the large scale expansions programmes that are currently taking place in Makkah to ensure that millions of annual religious tourists undergo the most rewarding experience in the holy city.
The Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage, takes place once per year over five days, and it’s the largest annual gathering of people in the world. Currently, between 3 and 5 million perform the Hajj, but another 10 million visit Makkah annually to see the holy sites, or participate in the Umrah which is another Islamic pilgrimage. Given the millions of visitors from all over the globe, Makkah has become one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the Muslim world.
